Books

Two photographic journeys through Japan.

The result of more than a decade of exploration.

More Than a Decade Exploring Japan

At a time when images are often viewed for only a few seconds before disappearing from a screen, I have always believed that some photographs deserve more time.

For more than a decade, I have dedicated my photographic work exclusively to Japan. Season after season, I explore its landscapes, cities, architecture, and lesser-known places, often returning to the same locations to discover them from a new perspective. These books are not simply collections of photographs. They are the result of years of exploration, thousands of kilometers traveled, and a body of work built patiently over time.

I have always loved photography books. They offer an experience that digital media can never replace: the opportunity to slow down, return to an image, and discover a series exactly as it was meant to be seen. These two books were born from that conviction. They are an invitation to discover Japan differently, through the pages of a journey spanning more than a decade.

Discover Eternal Japan, a photography book by Nicolas Wauters exploring Japan's timeless landscapes, culture and traditions through over a decade of fine photography.

Eternal Japan

More than a decade dedicated to photographing Japan.

For over ten years, I have traveled across Japan with a single purpose: to document the country's landscapes, architecture, and atmosphere through every season, by day and by night.

Eternal Japan is the result of that long-term commitment. Rather than simply showcasing famous places, it offers a personal vision of Japan, bringing together iconic locations and quieter scenes that often remain unnoticed.

Featuring more than 200 photographs across 288 pages, the book explores Japan through eight regions. Each image is accompanied by a short text that provides context and invites the reader to discover the places beyond the photograph.

Whether you have already experienced Japan or dream of visiting one day, Eternal Japan is an invitation to slow down and see the country through a different perspective.

A nighttime scene of a busy Japanese street with neon signs and hanging lanterns, visible storefronts, and a few people sitting outdoors.

Japan : Tranquility and tumult

Created after years of helping travelers discover Japan.

After guiding thousands of travelers throughout Japan, I noticed the same challenge again and again. Many explored the country with their eyes fixed on a guidebook, constantly searching for addresses instead of simply enjoying the places around them.

Japan: Tranquility & Tumult was created to offer a different way to travel.

Combining photography, practical insights, and an interactive Google Map, the book allows readers to prepare their journey at home and explore Japan using nothing more than their phone. Accessible through a QR code, the map includes more than 900 carefully selected locations and is continuously updated.

Alongside practical information, the book shares my own photographic vision of Japan. Rather than focusing on its crowds, it celebrates the country's landscapes, architecture, atmosphere, and the quieter places that often leave the strongest memories.

Whether you're planning your first visit or returning to Japan, Japan: Tranquility & Tumult is designed to inspire, guide, and accompany your journey.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

For more than a decade, I have chosen to dedicate my work to a single country.

Photography has taken me across Japan through every season, by day and by night, and every journey continues to reveal new places, changing landscapes, and unexpected moments.

These books capture only part of that story. The work continues with every photograph, every landscape, and every place still waiting to be discovered.
